Abstract

Background: Dyslipidemia is a disruption in lipid metabolism due to the interaction of genetic factors and environmental factors in the form of increased levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and decreased levels of HDL. Indonesian people tend to have low physical activity due to advances in technology, especially in the fields of electronics and transportation, and a lazy lifestyle. Low physical activity can cause an imbalance in lipids which causes HDL levels.

Objective: This research was conducted to determine the relationship between physical activity and HDL levels in patients with dyslipidemia through a literature study

Methods: This research uses a literature review as a research methodology to answer research questions

Results: Based on the Pubmed, science direct, and Sagejournal databases, 7865 article results were obtained that matched search keywords with publication years from 2014-2023. Next, articles were identified based on accessible articles and full text obtained from 3473 journals. The articles were screened again based on the title and abstract and selected 27 appropriate articles, then re-identified based on the research objectives, resulting in 7 articles that met the objectives.

Conclusion: The effective duration of physical activity is moderate duration ≥ 600 METs a week (±0.82–0.94 mg/dL) and high duration ≥ 3000 METs a week (±0.64–0.84). Some effective physical activities are water resistance (±8.08), resistance training (±7.00 mg/dL), water aerobics (±4.49 mg/dL), jogging (+2.1-3.3 mg/dL), swimming (+ 1.6–3.3 mg/dL), dance-dance revolution (+1.5–3.4 mg/dL), international standard dancing (+1.0–2.7 mg/dL), and cycling (+0.6–1.8 mg/dL). Regular physical activity can increase HDL levels
